Wendell Folks RV-8 Project - Page 72.
December 1, 2007: The Saturday session with
Wendell began after I returned from a short test flight. Wendell's Aeronca Champ is
getting it's annual inspection for this year by a local A&P. Wendell had moved
the Champ and my RV-9A out of the hangar since there was painting of RV-8 parts going on
inside.
Here is a look at the major parts painted today. The focus was on the
parts that will not be easy to paint when the airplane is fully assembled. The way
Wendell is talking, the rest of the surfaces of the wings and control surfaces will be
painted after the airplane is fully assembled.
The paint on the wing tips is only in the area to be underneath the clear
Plexiglas that will cover the landing lights and strobe lights.
Wendell is seen here using the flaring tool on the second fuel vent line for
the LEFT wing tank.
The right aileron was the first to be mounted to the wing.
Here is a close-up view of the aileron push-rod from the bellcrank to the
aileron itself. Wendell also mounted the other aileron on the LEFT wing before the
end of the session.
December 3, 2007: The Monday
evening session had Wendell working on the fuel tank attach brackets to be sure they would
not have an interference fit issue with the wing root fairing. The black
"Sharpie" lines on the fuselage skin show how much of the bracket was removed.
The LEFT side bracket is shown. The one on the right side got a similar
modification.
December 5, 2007: Wendell cut the joy stick
length to clear the instrument panel after the stick grip and push-to-talk button were
installed.
