Tuesday, September 23rd, 2003 - Tropical Expedition.
Luis, and all you others interested in my recent exploits in the tropics -
Here you go! First stop of the day out of Miami was in the Turks & Caicos
Islands to see the cable operator in Providenciales (Provo). Here are some pix from
the flight line at the FBO.
As you can see above, the Provo FBO is expanding (UPWARD).
This very nice Jamaican lady was running the front desk at the FBO and made
sure that we got through customs and got a ride for us to our luncheon meeting with the
local cable company.
Here is our ride for this trip, a Beech King Air C-90.
And here is front office of the King Air as we head from Provo to Santo
Domingo. Sorry Luis, I only had 30 minutes of advance notice we were coming, and we
were on the ground for only about three hours at the airport.
This is a Russian-made executive jet. The boarding door is a stairway at
the rear similar to the rear entry to a Boeing 727. It is a Yakovlev 40 from
Kazakhstan. This model is used as a regional airline jet in parts of the Russian
federation, etc.
I found the picture below of the same airplane on the internet. I also found
a picture virtually identical to the one I took above with the airplane sitting in the
same location at the Santo Domingo Airport. I checked the trees in the background of
my picture above to be sure.
Here is the flight line in the FBO area across from the Santo Domingo passenger
terminal. Our King Air is between a real Lear 35 and the Yakovlev 40 jet.
At the other end of the FBO flight line is this bone yard with a few DC-6 (or
are they DC-7's) aircraft with a Lockheed Super Constellation hiding in the back ground.
If I am correct, that is a Gulfstream executive jet on the tarmac in front of the
cast offs.
Here is an airline I have never seen before: Air Europa. An
American Airlines 767 is on final approach in the back ground.
That's all for this outing. Enjoy... | Return to Other Travels Menu | Back to my RV-9A home page. |
