Wendell's Aeronca Champ Heading to Amarillo - - Page 9.
May 8, 2013: Day 2 of the trip to Amarillo
begins at Muskogee, Oklahoma from Davis Field. The guys did not take any photos
during the departure, therefore I have no idea when they became airborne. This first
photo of the day is time stamped at 9:21 Eastern Time / 8:21 Central. Looking at
that airport out there on the left side of the airplane, I would guess that it is located
at Okmulgee, Oklahoma. I base my guess on the fact that this airport 33 miles from
Davis Field and sits about 4 to 5 miles south of a direct course to the next planned stop
at Guthrie, Oklahoma.
Five minutes later comes the town of Beggs, Oklahoma. I looked at this
town using Google Earth to confirm the streets seen below in this photo taken by Wendell
match the aerial photography on Google Earth for the town of Beggs.
Fourteen minutes later, this photo would be showing Oklahoma state route 48 as
they are flying about 5 miles south of Bristow.
Wendell's attention was drawn to a petroleum tank farm near the town of
Cushing, Oklahoma about 10 miles to the north of their flight path.
The city of Stroud, Oklahoma is on the other side. They have also crossed
Interstate 44 and Historic US 66 which runs through Stroud.
That is the airport for Guthrie and Edmond, Oklahoma on the left of the
airplane. Interstate 35 is a major north / south highway at the bottom of the
photograph.
The view from left base in the pattern is always a welcome sight.
The town of Guthrie is visible on the north side of the airplane when flying
the base leg of the pattern.
Terry is rolling out to align the airplane with the runway for final approach
and landing.
Here is the view of the main hangar on the ramp at Guthrie Edmond Regional Airport (KGOK).
The airport is 27 miles north of Oklahoma City and well outside their Class C
airspace. This photo was taken at 10:33 AM Eastern Time, so I would guess this is a
fuel stop and rest stop only.
Terry took this photo of an electric wind turbine farm on the right side of the
airplane at 11:43 AM Eastern Time. That is one hour and 10 minutes after the photo
above on the ramp at Guthrie. I searched along the route from Guthrie to Elk City
and found wind farms and oil fields. I did not find the specific group of wind
turbines in the photo below.
