Keith Antcliff - Bonanza and Pitts S2A owner.
The last stop of the week in the state of Washington was to work with Keith
Antcliff and his technician Mike Dale on their cable system (my day job). After the
work on the cable system was done, Keith invited me to to his hangar at the Spokane Felts
airport. Inside he has this lovely Pitts S2A which he is qualified to fly in
airshows with an aerobatic waiver to the surface.
We took a 45-minute flight in the Bonanza up to the north of Spokane over the
town of Newport, Washington and a low pass over the airport at Priest River, Idaho.
I had a chance to fly the Bonanza and had to quickly learn the horizon view over the
cowling that relates to straight and level. This airplane gross weight is 3,600
pounds and is flown with trim for sure.
Here is Keith posing next to the Bonanza for the final photo of the day back in
the hangar. No, I didn't take any airborne photos, I was having too much fun flying.
Keith said he has never rolled the Bonanza, but he did put it up knife edge and we
went through a few seconds of zero-G after taking about 3-G's going up into position for
the knife edge slide. That was when he went to hands off and told me to recover to
level flight.
It was definitely a good day to get some flying in after a day at the office (his office in Newport, Washington).
