Vacations: Florida in the Summer of 1954 - Page 2.

January 3,2016:  The old photos continue on day three of our vacations with Beach Photos!  All we need is for mom to stop taking pictures and drive us over to the beach.

Can we get started now?

The pose for the folks back home.  Our 1953 Chevy is parked at the high water mark in the sand.  Those are tire tracks going up and down the beach behind my mother at age 30.

My sister wanted a "glamour" shot also.

Come on mom, we all smiled, give us the inner tube to ride the waves!   (Billy, Jerry, Jean)

Can we get back in the waves now?

This was taken after a wave brought me into the shore after flipping the tube to put my lets UP for the end of the ride.  I was able to get up when my arms could read the bottom close to shore.

Billy was keeping an eye on me and body surfing along side me.

Here is the last surf photo of the day with mom holding her sun glasses and the start of a sun burn.

Daytona Beach is called "The World's Most Famous Beach" for its very WIDE beach at low tide.  Before the Daytona International Speedway was built, the original NASCAR races were run near the south end of the beach with the narrow beach highway as the other half of the track.  Up near the pier and boardwalk, the band shell has live concerts on special occasions.

The clock tower is just south of the band shell and faces the beach as seen here.  It has clocks on all four sides.

In case you missed us at the bottom of the photo above, here is a closer view cropped from the photo with Billy on the left, Jean in the middle, and me on the right side of the bench.

That is all the photos from the 1954 trip to Daytona Beach.  More to see on the next trip to Daytona in 1955.
