Wendell Folks RV-8 Project - Page 60.

August 1, 2007:  The Alaska Trip is over and my 10-day trip to Florida is also over.  With both Wendell and myself back at home, it is time to get to work again on his RV-8 project.  It is time to start with the wheel pants and get them aligned with the centerline of the airplane.  The centerline from the firewall to the tail wheel arm is first established under the fuselage.

The center line of the tires must be extended fore and aft of both tires and parallel to the fuselage center line.  A 1-inch spacer is taped on top of the tire to insure clearance inside the fiberglass fairing.

The fuselage must be leveled at the longerons.  This represents straight and level flight of the airplane.

August 2, 2007:  The next step is to enlarge the wheel openings to fit over the tires.  This allows the room needed to align the fiberglass wheel fairing to the tire center lines on the floor.  A notch is cut to clear the gear leg fairing.

Wendell liked the sunset that was behind the cloud cover and Lookout Mountain.   This picture did not come out as he hoped due to the lens flare that occured in the camera lens elements.  At least the camera turned on the flash to fill in the shadows.

If things don't look quite right here, you are correct.   (But we have not found out why just yet.)
