Wendell Folks RV-8 Project - Page 42.
January 29, 2007: The power plug wires from
the radio stack are being added to the DBM-25 plug on the work bench.
Wendell has started putting tie-wraps on the various wires going around the
airplane. We talk a lot about vibrations and long-term wire chafing against other
cables, etc.
The "telephone" cable going to the ELT unit is secured to the bottom
skin and bulkhead with duct tape. When the baggage floor and bulkheads are
installed, the the excess wire will be coiled and secured to the ELT mounting bracket.
While Wendell and I worked on the airplane, his painter has been cleaning and
scuffing up empennage parts in doing the prep work before the airplane can be painted.
The rudder and vertical stabilizer are ready to be primed before painting.
February 3, 2007: This
Saturday was a short session in the morning with Wendell as other visitors stopped by to
check on the progress of the project in the "coffee warehouse" shop at his grass
field. Rich Nadig stopped by to look at the RV-8 project and to ask me about the
details of my capacitive fuel probes in my RV-9A. I pulled out the large drawing and
explained the details of how the sensor plates are installed and the wires to connect both
plates to a sealed BNC connector to exit the inboard fuel tank end rib. The photo
below shows the completion of all the connections to the DBM-25 connector that powers the
radio stack and the fuel guages. The Dynon D10-A and the Trio units have dedicated
wiring harnesses. The gray plug below powers everything else on the removable
instrument panel.
The session this week was cut short due to my need to begin a road trip for my day job. This week the trip was to Florida to visit some distributors and customers who buy, sell, and use Olson Technology fiber optic products.
February 10, 2007: Another Saturday
afternoon session with Wendell to finish wiring the last wire to the audio DBM-25
connector. Wendell made the mounting plate for the rear seat passenger power outlet
You can also see that he has been cleaning up the wire bundles with tie wraps.
And just like last week, the Saturday session is all that I can do this week since I am on the road to the midwest as I publish this web update from Shepherdsville, Kentucky.
