Eddy Fernandez RV-9A · · PAGE 2

November 26, 2005:  Eddy is now building in his single-car garage in a space smaller than I used back home in Tennessee.  He recently moved the project here from another location where he had more room to spread out.  You can see his wife's car lives outside as does his pickup truck.

I had Eddy pull the garage door down to insure the camera flash would fire and here is the same area fully illuminated.  The riveting is immaculate by any standard.   ALL the skin rivets on the fuselage were back-riveted from the inside.  There are NO marks on the outer skins!

The bottom of the cowl will be secured to the firewall by screws and plate nuts.  The fuel pump vent line is seen going through the metal plate between two of the plate nutes.  The two nuts on the firewall secure a parking brake valve mounted on the inside just like the one I have from Aircraft Spruce & Specialty.

Eddy made a short U-shaped line to put the oil pressure switch on the manifold facing forward.  You can compare this with my version on this page.  The other thing to note in this picture is the use of 1/4-turn fasteners instead of hinges or screws to secure the upper cowl to the firewall.

And of course, here is a picture of Eddy on the left and Jim Streit, also an RV-9A builder on the right side of the photo.

I was concerned by the image I saw on the small screen of my digital camera, so I asked them to step out in the sun for one more photo before lunch time.  The weather this week in south Florida has been just great.  I was checking the weather near home before I posted these pages and confirmed my decision to drive down this week was a good decision.  The storms forecasted to be in my home area are arriving just as predicted and would have kept me away for a few extra days.

After lunch, Jim asked me if I would like to stop by his home to see his RV-9A project.  What else would I do?  After all, his place was not far off my route back to where I am staying this week.  You can use this link to jump directly to his page.
