Wendell's Aeronca Champ Heading to Amarillo - - Page 6.
May 7, 2013: Wendell's camera focused on the
view outside or the reflection from the GPS screen. Either way, the ground speed is
78 MPH at this point.
The photo above and this one showing the altitude at 2,500 MSL were taken just
after the Waldenburg photos on the previous page.
This outside photo taken at 3:15 PM Eastern Time shows Newport and Diaz,
Arkansas with US 67 on the right side of the airplane.
Terry zoomed in on the town of Newport in this photo looking northwest.
This coal-fired power plant is about 8 miles northwest of Newport, Arkansas.
I processed this photo to get contrast. It was hiding in the haze.
About 17 minutes later, Terry spotted this C-130 doing low-level flight
practice in the hills to the west. I cropped the shot to get more resolution.
This photo was taken at 3:41 PM Eastern Time as the Champ is approaching Heber
Springs, Arkansas about 50 miles north of Little Rock. The airport is clearly
visible in this photo.
The lake in the background is the big draw for recreation in this part of the
state.
The airport is more visible as the Champ is turned for the approach to Heber
Springs Airport in Arkansas.
