Wendell Folks RV-8 Project - Page 77.

January 11, 2008:  This Friday evening visit shows the current status of Wendell's RV-8 project before the big day in the homebuilt paint shop in the hangar next door.  These photos show all the smaller parts of the airplane after they were painted in a professional paint booth in nearby Dalton, Georgia.   Can you say "D.O.T. YELLOW" for the color of the airplane?  The wing tips and elevators really shine!

Here is the rudder and its bottom cap shown with the wing fairings and the some of the other small cover plates.

The wheel fairings are still a work in progress as you can see.  The gear leg intersection fairings were installed since my last visit.  The plate nuts are installed that hold the front and rear halves of the fairings together.

The cowl is ready for the blue trim that will come when the two halves are mated to the fuselage.  The empennage fairing is completed.

This is the view as you enter the "paint booth" at the southwest corner.  Take notice that the plastic sheeting is stapled to the bottom of the trusses overhead to form a ceiling.  The walls are covered of course!  The floor was cleaned before it was wet down with a soap and water mixture to hold the plastic sheeting on the concrete floor.

This side view reveals a bit of the "south wall" of the paint booth where it meets the back wall of the hangar now covered with plastic.  The engine is already covered.  The cockpit area. windshield, gear legs, and wheels have yet to be protected.

This last view from the other side reveals the north wall of the hangar covered with plastic also.  What I did not photograph was the big heavy draped plastic sheets hanging from the trusses that complete the paint booth on the south and west sides of the RV-8.  The photo above shows just a small area of the south wall of the booth at the right side of the photo.
