Potash Mine North of White Springs, Florida on US 41 · · PAGE 3.

November 11, 2020:  Going north from White Springs on US 41 there is a railroad track running parallel with the highway.  There are not many trains that run this line as it supports a potash mining site that makes fertilizer.  It was a rainy day in 2010 that I took this photo.  I was explaining details about this part of the US 41 highway to Linda as we passed this way on November 11, 2020 at 11:36 AM on a clear day, not like the rainy day seen in my 2010 photo seen below.

These side tracks of the Norfolk Southern Railway support the potash facility near this location.  This view is looking north alongside US 41.

This railroad crossing provides access from US 41 to the entrance of the potash mining location.

When I took this photo in 2010, the railroad was operating locomotives on this track by remote control.  I did not see these yellow signs as we passed this way on November 11, 2020.

Here is the main road going to the Potash Corporation mining area about 10 miles north of White Springs, Florida on US 41.

My old 1996 Cadillac took me to a lot of places over the years.  This was one of those places in February 2010.

This large pile of material is what this place is all about.

This huge drag line scoop machine is how they mine the potassium ore to make the potash and fertilizer.

This old Stuckey's Pecan store and gas station was a good place to stop in the 1940's up until Interstate 75 was built in the mid-1960's.  I took this photo in July 2003.

Google Earth captured this image in March 2014.  This old Stuckey's store is about half a mile south of the US 41 junction with US 129 before going into Jasper, Florida.

This old post card shows how these stores looked when they were still in business.  They were located on the major US highways before the interstate highways were built in the 1960's.

Just about FIVE miles up the road from the Potash mine is the junction of US 41 and US 129 going north toward Jasper, Florida.  Interstate 75 is nearby, but the focus here is a mom & pop motel that has survived without being directly on an exit at the interstate highway.  The new RED metal roof will insure this place does not succumb to the aging effects of weather.  This is a photo I snapped in February 2010.

The current Google Image for this motel was captured in March 2014 showing the RED ROOF from 2010 in my photo above is now WHITE.  Was this change to minimize solar heating to lower the air conditioning electric bill?  Who knows?
