DHS Homecoming Weekend

Friday, October 15, 2010 - 2:00 PM - ATTEND PEP SESSION.    The Class of 1965 will meet in the NEW DHS lobby of the gymnasium and all enter together.  If this is your first reunion and you have lived out of town all these years, there is a NEW Dalton High School located on Manly Street, just off Waugh Street.  This map will show you the location west of Thornton Avenue (OLD US 41 from our time at DHS).

Friday - October 15, 2010 - AFTER PEP SESSION.   Instead of riding on a flat-bed truck in the Homecoming Parade through Dalton, the Class of 1965 will show our support by cheering the parade from Ronnie Barber's front yard as they depart DHS at the beginning and return after the end of the parade.  Please park at Dalton High School and walk down to Ron's house on Waugh Street.  You won't have any problem finding Ron's house, just follow the DHS 65 crowd after the PEP SESSION.   (It is the second house from the corner on the south side of the street.)  Snacks, soft drinks, ice, and cups will be provided.  Please bring signs, lawn chairs, and any other food or drink you prefer.

Friday - October 15, 2010 - BALLGAME AND PARTY.   Tickets are available through the Dalton High School office at 706-278-8757 for anyone who might want to attend the football game.

Friday Night Party TBD.  (We are still in planning mode!)

Saturday - October 16, 2010 - BARBECUE CASUAL OUTING AT "THE BARN" ON MILL CREEK ROAD (Dress is sports casual)
4:00 PM - Social Hour (BYOB) There is a pond at the site, bring your fishing gear if you like.  Showing up at 2 PM would not be a problem if you want to get a head start on the day.
6:00 PM - Barbecue Dinner begins...
"Oldies but Goodies" music will be provided by Jerry Thorne, just like the outing at our previous Prater's Mill summer reunion.

How to get there: From US 41, follow the route on the maps below beginning at the junction of GA route 201 in Rocky Face.
Go south on GA 201 about two-tenths of a mile and turn LEFT on to Old Lafayette Road.
The next RIGHT turn will be MILL CREEK ROAD just ahead (unless you came through OLD LaFayette road from US 41).

If you want to cut off US 41 at Old Lafayette Road, just look for Mill Creek Road on the left before you get to GA 201.

When you are on Mill Creek Road going SOUTH, you have about 5 miles to get to THE BARN on the right side of the road

This route passes "The Farm" on the ride south in Mill Creek Valley.  "The Barn" is located 5.3 miles from US 41 and the GA 201 junction.

If you want to take the "high road" from Walnut Avenue head west past I-75 and over the mountain on Dug Gap Battle Road, it is a five-mile ride via this route.   Dug Gap Road will end at Hurricane Road.  Turn right and continue west on Hurricane to the stop sign at Mill Creek Road.  Turn right (north) and go less than 1 mile to The Barn.  In that short 1-mile ride, you will pass a church on the left, and a bit later, there is a fire station on the left and "The Barn" is also on the left.   See the aerial and street-level photos below.

Our host at The Barn has a couple of classic cars and a wagon suitable for photographs, etc.  We were serious about bringing your fishing pole to use in the pond next door.  The barn is completely finished inside with a concrete floor and all the amenities.  Here is an aerial photo from Google Earth with north UP.  The driveway is paved now.  This Google aerial photo was made in 2007.

Here is how the barn looks from the street.  Don't let it fool you, it's what's inside that counts!  I will try to post some interior photos soon.

This page created on March 25, 2010 -- Edited on May 26, 2010 per Ronnie's request.  The first map had a computer error in the driving instructions.  I put in TWO smaller maps in case you missed it above.
